Welcome to harmonia mundi, United Kingdom store
- Having already garnered support from Earmilk, Amazing Radio, 1883 and Louder Than War, Snowpoet’s long awaited eponymous album draws together their unique sound in a breathtaking homage to both improvised and composed music.
Described as an ambient alternative folk ensemble, London-based Snowpoet was born out of a musical friendship and understanding. Fusing together the writing duo of Lauren Kinsella and Chris Hyson, Snowpoet bring melody, form and poetry to a new setting. Inspired in equal parts by artists such as Bjork, Sylvia Plath, Joni Mitchell, Phillip Larkin, EE Cummings,Tom Waits, Ólöf Arnalds and John Cage, the group explores the beauty of the song form in all its complexity. Heavily influenced by alternative folk and indie genres, Snowpoet seek out new ways of storytelling through melody harmony and rhythm.
The nucleus of the group is comprised of BBC Radio 2’s Jamie Cullum-endorsed multi-instrumentalist Chris Hyson, who can be found on electric bass, keyboards, synths, piano, acoustic guitar and even a Wurlitzer throughout the album, alongside award-winning vocalist/lyricist Lauren Kinsella, whose solo work has seen support from The Guardian, and is often heard on BBC Radio 3 and Jazz FM. Matthew Robinson, Nicholas Costley-White, Josh Arcoleo and Dave Hamblett form the rest of the multi-talented troop.
"A timely reminder that there are constantly artists out there striving to be original and unique." Louder Than War
