- Originally trained in western classical music, French multi-flautist Henri Tournier has since pursued a career as a musician and teacher specialising in Indian classical music. He studied under Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia and is the author of the authoritative tome “Hariprasad Chaurasia and the Art of Improvisation”. Tournier has guested on several previous albums on Accords Croises, and is given the spotlight on this new album wherein he presents encounters with vocal traditions from East and West.
Tournier assembled an impressive cast of singers for the project, from Mongolia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tunisia, France, Iran, Japan and India, with each singer performing a song from their country. Among those invited are Abida Parveen, Alireza Ghorbani, Dorsaf Hamdani and Ustad Farida Mahwash, all of whom have recorded for Accords Croises. Breath of the World is an intrepid undertaking which coheres impressively into a truly global representation of the art of traditional music.
